AOK, nationwide

Health insurance funds and federal association

The Allgemeine Ortskrankenkassen (general local health insurance company) consists of eleven legally independent AOKs, corporations under public law with equal self-administration of insurance and employer representatives.

With over 18 million members, more than one third of all German citizens subject to contributions are insured with an AOK. One of the core tasks of the federal association is to represent the interests of the AOK vis-à-vis politicians and its contractual partners at the federal level.
