Historic Old Town
The Bächle is one of the distinctive sights to be discovered in Freiburg's historic old town. These small open water channels run through the entire city centre. It is well worth exploring the city on foot. But watch out: years ago, even a German Chancellor fell victim to the Bächle in an unguarded moment. A superstition says that anyone who steps into the Bächle will stay here and get married. He did not stay. But many others have. For the city is one of those with a lot of newcomers and a great deal of tourism. The city centre invites you to take a stroll. It is closed to traffic, so walking is the easiest way to reach the many central sights.
Minster
In the old town, the Minster looks out over the roofs of the city. Construction began in 1200 and lasted until 1330. Freiburg Minster is one of the city's most impressive sights. It was built from red sandstone in the late Romanesque and Gothic style.
SC Freiburg
The football club is one of Freiburg's best-known sporting names. And every year we are delighted all over again when it stays in the Bundesliga.
Black Forest
Lake Titisee, the Ravenna Gorge and the Feldberg are some of the highlights worth visiting from Freiburg. Those who are able to spend more time here will discover many more such gems in the Black Forest.
Border Triangle
Freiburg lies in the border triangle of Baden-Württemberg, close to Switzerland and France. Freiburg is surrounded by the Black Forest and the Kaiserstuhl. On clear days, the Vosges mountains in France and the Swiss Alps can also be seen. To see the Alps, it is worth going on a hike in the mountains that surround a large part of the city.
