Many technical programs are built in C++ with MFC. CAD extensions, measurement and control software, image processing. The core calculates quickly and reliably. But the user interface looks old, and every change is laborious. We modernise your MFC application and keep what works well.
Why MFC applications are being modernised
- Hardly any further development. MFC is still shipped with Visual Studio, but has received hardly any new features for years.
- Costly user interfaces. High screen resolutions, touch and modern interaction concepts are expensive with MFC.
- Lack of developers. Young developers learn C#, modern C++ without MFC, or web technology.
- High maintenance effort. With CAD extensions based on ObjectARX, every new version of the CAD system requires a lot of adaptation.
Two routes
- Keep the core, renew the user interface. Compute-intensive parts such as image processing or geometry remain in C++. The user interface is rebuilt in WPF and communicates with the core via a C++/CLI bridge.
- Entirely to C#. Where C++ brings no advantage, we port everything to C# and .NET. The code becomes shorter and easier to maintain.
Measurements and a cost-benefit analysis in the Modernisation Check show which route is right.
What we modernise along the way
- MFC dialogs, menus, toolbars and property windows
- COM interfaces and ActiveX
- Build with CMake and automated tests with Google Test
- Older C++ to current language standards
- 32-bit code to 64-bit
Examples from our projects
AutoCAD add-in for civil engineering. We ported several hundred thousand lines of C++, COM, MFC and ObjectARX code to C# and to the AutoCAD .NET API. User interface, ribbon, property windows, commands and CAD objects. In the process, the code became shorter and simpler. View the project
Image processing library. For a measuring device manufacturer from the region, we are porting and modernising a company-wide C++ standard library with OpenCV, CMake and Google Test. View the project
Getting started: the Modernisation Check
In the Modernisation Check, we analyse your C++ and MFC application, propose a target architecture and calculate when the port will pay off. You receive an analysis report with target architecture, cost-benefit analysis and phased plan. The Modernisation Check costs a fixed price of €3,490 plus VAT. If you then commission the follow-up project, we credit 50% of the package price.

Frequently asked questions about MFC migration
Will our software stay fast?
Yes. Time-critical parts remain in C++ or are specifically optimised. We measure before and after.
What about our CAD extensions?
We port ObjectARX extensions for AutoCAD and BricsCAD to the .NET API. More on this under CAD Software Development.
- Modernising legacy software: moving Delphi, VB6 and MFC to .NET step by step
- Porting an AutoCAD add-in to BricsCAD: what stays the same and what doesn’t
