    Task

The firm plans with Revit. Many steps are repeated in every project, for example numbering hundreds of foundations or taking over elevations from the terrain. An employee was to learn how to program such steps as a Revit add-in on their own.

    Solution

In the training, add-ins are built step by step in exercises. They select and filter elements, read and write parameters, respond to events, build custom ribbons and WPF dialogs, store data in the model and generate geometry.

In a meeting afterwards, we collected the firm's tasks and described each one as a requirement with images. As an example, an add-in was created that numbers foundations. It recognises the orientation of the building and counts in rows or columns.

The exercises now run on Revit 2027 with .NET 10. A template also builds the same add-in for older Revit versions.

    Benefits

The firm knows what an add-in can do. The collected tasks are described and can be implemented one by one.
